This week is the first full week of earnings reports. It will be interesting to see whether the market’s focus finally shifts from macro headlines to single stock news. 10 day realized volatility in the S&P 500 index is now 21, and the overnight futures action today was hardly calm.
The bond market is closed today for Columbus day, and no major events are scheduled today as a result. Retail sales and PPI data are released tomorrow, and housing starts and building permits data is on Friday. In Europe, CPI data tomorrow across the continent is the only notable data report.
As for single stocks, financials and technology are the two main sectors to watch this week. Most of the mega cap banks report, and some of the technology bellwethers, such as INTC and GOOGL, are also on the calendar:
