Now that earnings season is basically over, and no major macroeconomic data until the busy slate of releases after the Labor Day holiday next week, traders are expecting a quiet week in the markets.  After Janet Yellen’s Jackson Hole speech on Friday, William Dudley’s speech at 8:30 am EDT this morning might provide some more clarity on the FOMC’s inclinations over the next 6 months.

As far as data releases in the U.S., new home sales is released this morning, durable goods orders is on Tuesday, revised second quarter GDP is on Thursday, and personal income and spending data is released on Friday.  Outside of the U.S., German jobs data is on Wednesday, Japanese CPI and household spending data is on Thursday, and several central banks (Turkey, Hungary, and Israel) will release their interest rate decisions this week.

As for single stocks, aside from the few earnings reports this week, energy investors will be watching developments at the ONS 2014 conference, where many of the large cap energy stocks will be presenting this week.  Elon Musk is the keynote speaker at the opening session today.
