Earnings season has wound down, with retail the one remaining sector with a large number of earnings releases still remaining. Some of the household names of retail report this week, but the earnings calendar has significantly lightened this week.
The Federal Reserve is back in focus this week. The FOMC Minutes are released on August 20th, and the annual Jackson Hole symposium includes a keynote speech by Janet Yellen on Thursday. ECB head Mario Draghi is also likely to make a speech as well.
As for economic data in the U.S., housing starts and building permits data is on Tuesday, and existing home sales data is on Thursday. CPI is also on Tuesday. Economic data in Europe, China, and Japan is quite light.
